The Naugatuck Greyhounds are taking a road trip to face off against the Pomperaug Panthers at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty run totals in their previous games.
As a matter of fact, Naugatuck put up the most runs they have all season on Friday. Everything went their way against Waterbury Career Academy as they made off with a 19-2 win. The victory continues a trend for the Greyhounds in their matchups with the Spartans: they've now won seven in a row.
Colton Hofmann was incredible, going a perfect 2-for-2 with two stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI. Those two stolen bases gave him a new career-high. Kevin Cestari also deserves some recognition as he hit his first triple of the season.
Naugatuck always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .548. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their OBP total in three consecutive matchups.
Meanwhile, it was a proper cat-fight when Pomperaug took on Kolbe-Cathedral on Monday. The Panthers came out on top against the Cougars by a score of 10-7. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Panthers.
Brayden Cloutier tossed a big game, pitching five innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits.
At the plate, Pomperaug got a big performance out of Noah Pane, who went 1-for-4 with four stolen bases and two runs. With that strong performance, Pane is now averaging an impressive 1.2 stolen bases per game. The team also got some help courtesy of Louis Nevadamski, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.
Naugatuck's record now sits at 10-3. As for Pomperaug, their record is now 3-7.
Pomperaug's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Naugatuck has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .449. It's a different story for Pomperaug, though, as they've only averaged .342. Will they be able to contain Naugatuck's hitters?
Naugatuck came up short against Pomperaug in their previous meeting back in April of 2024, falling 5-1. Can the Greyhounds avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
