The Leroy Bears scored the most points they've had all season to find success on Thursday. They breezed by Fruitdale at home to the tune of 91-20. With that victory, Leroy brought their scoring average up to 55 points per game.
Leroy was led to victory by Joshua Reed and Taylor Crumedy. Reed shot 5-for-6 from long range and dropped a double-double on 21 points and 11 rebounds, while Crumedy scored 28 points along with seven steals and six assists. That's the first time this season that Reed pulled down eight or more rebounds. Ray Phillips was another key contributor, scoring nine points along with eight assists and eight rebounds.
Despite the loss, Fruitdale still got an impressive performance from Deion Taylor, who scored nine points along with six rebounds and three steals. Taylor scored a full 45% of Fruitdale's points, the 11th time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points.
Perhaps unsurprisingly given the score, Fruitdale struggled to work together and finished the game with only four assists. They were crushed by their opponents in that department as Leroy racked up 23 assists.
Leroy's victory bumped their record up to 2-5. As for Fruitdale, they still haven't won a game yet this season and fell to 0-11.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Leroy won't have much time to rest: their next game is against Jackson at 7:30 p.m. on January 5th. The timing is sure in Jackson's favor as the squad sits on four straight wins at home while Leroy has been banged up by five consecutive losses on the road dating back to last season. Fruitdale will be staying on the road on Friday to face off against Southern Choctaw at 6:30 p.m. on January 5th.
