Mar Vista has enjoyed a three-game homestand but will soon have to dust off their road jerseys. They will square off against the Eastlake Titans at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. Mar Vista will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps California Rankings (they are ranked 692nd, while Eastlake is ranked 323rd).
Mar Vista suffered their biggest loss yet this season on Wednesday. They were beaten by Victory Christian Academy 84-39. The result shouldn't come as a shock considering that's the fewest points Mar Vista has scored all season.
Meanwhile, Eastlake had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 11 points), and they went ahead and made it three on Wednesday. They pulled ahead with a 59-58 photo finish over Olympian. Having run the score up that high, both teams might be doing some extra defensive drills very soon.
Mar Vista's loss dropped their record down to 10-8. As for Eastlake, their win was their fifth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 14-9.
Mar Vista skirted past Eastlake 78-75 in their previous matchup back in April of 2021. One of the biggest obstacles trying to stand in the way of that victory was Eastlake's Xavier Rubio, who scored 29 points along with six steals and five rebounds. Now that he won't be playing on Friday, will it be that much easier for Mar Vista to walk away with another win? Check MaxPreps.com after the match to find out.
