1A South Central recap Sept. 26, 2012
The biggest upset of the week belonged to Limon, who took down 38th ranked Burlington, 44-7. Gavin Liggett threw for 98 yards and one touchdown and ran for 39 yards in the win.
Byers's Cody Kirby rumbled for the longest rushing play in 1A South Central this season in his game against Rocky Ford last week. Kirby's team bested the Meloneers as he sprinted for 63 yards on the play and finished with 100 in all.
Ryan Imber put up the best numbers through the air as Byers defeated Rocky Ford. He finished with three completions for 83 yards and two touchdowns. Imber's favorite target this week was Chase Dean, who caught one pass for 50 yards.
Deveree Pearcy was the most productive running back in the league this week. In 11 carries, he ran for 183 yards as Las Animas beat the Cougars. Teammate Shane Smith added to the ground attack by rushing for 145 yards.
Stang was the best wideout in the league this week as Limon topped Burlington. Stang racked up one reception for 78 yards. Tyler Koehn helped Limon's passing attack out by catching one ball for 20 yards.
Mike O'Dwyer's team's Liggett and Stang have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading 1A South Central in both passing and receiving yards. Liggett has thrown for 660 yards this season, while Stang, a 5-foot-6 receiver, has nine catches for 292 yards. Imber from David Dodge's team leads the league in rushing with 490 yards.
A big matchup in the league this week will be when the Badgers take on the Trojans. Limon is in first place, while Las Animas is in third place.
Cody Hines's team was the team that gained the most ground in the standings this week, jumping from sixth to third in the league. The Trojans vanquished Calhan 32-16 earlier in the week.
