The Gateway Olympians struggled with assists on Monday (the Fairview Knights had 800% more) and sadly the final score reflected it. Gateway ended up on the wrong side of a tough 77-54 walloping at the hands of Fairview. Gateway lost against Fairview in their previous head to head back in December of 2022, too, but the margin this time around was much wider than the 72-55 score last time.
Despite the loss, Gateway still got an impressive performance from Oriel Bailey, who scored 19 points along with 9 rebounds. The game was Bailey's third in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Nickalaus Smith, who scored 9 points.
Leading Fairview to victory were Spencer Brown and Owen Foster. Brown scored 26 points along with 8 rebounds, while Foster scored 25 points along with 5 assists and 5 rebounds. That makes it two consecutive games in which Foster has scored at least 25% of Fairview's points. Luke Mangine was another key contributor, scoring 5 points.
Gateway's loss dropped their record down to 1-3. As for Fairview, they now have a winning record of 2-1.
Gateway will be staying on the road on Wednesday to face off against Battle Mountain at 5:00 p.m. on December 6th. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in Colorado (Battle Mountain is ranked 165th, while Gateway is ranked 186th). As for Fairview, they will look to defend their home court on Wednesday against Prairie View at 8:00 p.m. Hopefully Prairie View focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 20 on Monday.
