The Hartland Eagles entered their tilt with the Salem Rocks with two consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with three. Hartland secured a 60-56 W over Salem on Tuesday. Given Hartland's advantage in MaxPreps' Michigan basketball rankings (they are ranked 96th, while Salem is ranked 392nd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Several Rocks players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Tommy Veresh, who scored nine points along with eight rebounds and five steals. Those five steals set a new season-high mark for him. Another player making a difference was Aydin Saiyed, who scored 11 points along with five rebounds.
Even though they lost, Salem were smashing the offensive glass and finished the game with 16 offensive rebounds. That's the most offensive rebounds they've managed all season.
Hartland's win was their sixth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 8-2. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 53.2 points per game. As for Salem, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 2-8.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Hartland will challenge Plymouth at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Plymouth is coming into the matchup on a six-game losing streak. As for Salem, they will head out on the road to face off against Canton at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Canton is coming into the match hot, having won their last five games.
