Prince Edward County extended their losing streak to 12 on Thursday, dropping them down to 0-12. They came up short against the Cumberland Dukes, falling 14-5. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Dukes this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 12-1 on April 7th.
Ryan Gunn stepped up to lead a balanced group of hitters: he went 1-for-2 with three stolen bases, one run, and one RBI. Another player making a difference was Zymire Jennings, who went 1-for-3 with one triple, one run, and one RBI.
As for Cumberland, the win snapped their losing streak at four games and leaves them with a 3-7 record. Considering they have won three contests by more than eight runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.
On Cumberland's side, David Sullivan Jr. and Jeremiah Gee made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, Sullivan Jr. pitched 3.1 innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits. Meanwhile, Gee tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Sullivan Jr. has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances. At bat, Sullivan Jr. went 3-for-4 with two triples, two stolen bases, and three runs, while Gee went 3-for-4 with two runs, two RBI, and one double. Those triples marked the first that Sullivan Jr. has hit this season.
In other batting news, Brett Dalton was excellent, going 1-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double. That's the most runs he has posted since back in May of 2025. The team also got some help courtesy of Bryson Robison, who went 1-for-4 with three RBI, one run, and one double.
We've got plenty of inter-region action coming up soon. Prince Edward County is set to challenge their familiar foe Amelia County at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Meanwhile, Cumberland will take on rival Lunenburg Central at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
