Fort Bend Hightower is on a three-game streak of home wins, while Heights is on a four-game streak of away wins: one of those streaks is about to end. The Hurricanes will host the Bulldogs at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Fort Bend Hightower's pitching crew heads into the match hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Thursday. Everything went their way against Fort Bend Elkins as they made off with a 15-0 win.
Diana Rivas was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, tossing two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. She has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than one walk in five consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, earning one RBI and three runs.
In other pitching news, Bailie Holts looked comfortable as she pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks any time she's pitched this season.
Back at the plate, Baylee Bonner and Kourtney Jones-Caldwell did most of the damage at the plate: Bonner got on base in all three of her plate appearances with three runs, one stolen base, and two RBI, while Jones-Caldwell got on base in all three of her plate appearances with two stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI. Jenise Tristan was another key player, getting on base in all three of her plate appearances with one run and one RBI.
Fort Bend Hightower always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .640. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Fort Bend Elkins only posted an OBP of .000.
Meanwhile, in Thursday's Canine Competition, Heights prevailed. They were the clear victors by a 16-1 margin over Westside on Thursday.
Like Fort Bend Hightower, Heights also got a great game from a two-way player: Sara Paniagua. On the mound, she pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Paniagua was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-4 with two runs and two RBI. That's the most runs she has posted since back in March.
In other batting news, Flora Moreno was incredible, going 3-for-4 with one home run, three runs, and three RBI. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in February. Another player making a difference was Helen Maddux, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with two stolen bases, two runs, and one triple.
Heights is on a roll lately: they've won nine of their last ten contests. That's provided a massive bump to their 14-7 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.4 runs on average over those games. As for Fort Bend Hightower, their win bumped their record up to 18-4-2.
Saturday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Fort Bend Hightower hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .360. However, it's not like Heights struggles in that department as they've averaged .376. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
