Two teams were on the hunt for playoff glory, but only the Red Mountain Mountain Lions walked away with it. In a tight match that could have gone either way, they made off with a 36-35 win over the Broncos. This was one game where the offenses had no trouble playing at a high level.
IsaiaH Savoie had a dynamite game for Red Mountain, rushing for 144 yards and four touchdowns. Savoie has been hot recently, having posted 100 or more rushing yards the last five times he's played. Another player making a difference was Simon Lopez, who threw for 94 yards and a touchdown.
Despite the loss, Brophy College Prep still got an impressive performance from Charlie McGinnis, who rushed for 80 yards and two touchdowns on only nine carries, and also threw for 154 yards and two touchdowns. McGinnis was no stranger to the big play, turning on the jets for a run that went for 52 yards.
The victory (which was Red Mountain's third in a row) raised their record to 7-6. They've had to fight for that success though, as they only beat their opponents by an average of 3.33 points across that stretch. As for Brophy College Prep, their defeat ended a six-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 10-3.
Red Mountain will head out on the road to face off against Saguaro at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday. Saguaro is on a three-game streak of home wins, Red Mountain a three-game streak of away wins -- so someone will have to leave a streak behind on the field. Brophy College Prep does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
