Clayton is 10-0 against Corinth Holders since November of 2018, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Friday. The Clayton Comets will be playing at home against the Corinth Holders Pirates at 7:30 p.m. The timing is sure in Clayton's favor as the squad sits on eight straight wins at home (dating back to last season) while Corinth Holders has been banged up by seven consecutive losses on the road dating back to last season.
Clayton pushed their score all the way to 68 on Saturday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They took a 72-68 hit to the loss column at the hands of United Faith Christian Academy.
Despite the defeat, Clayton had strong showings from Justice Mitchell, who shot 4-for-7 from long range and dropped a double-double on 26 points and 11 rebounds, and Andrew Grimes, who dropped a double-double on 23 points and ten rebounds. Grimes has been hot recently, having posted 15 or more points the last five times he's played. Another player making a difference was Anthony Walters, who scored six points along with two steals.
Meanwhile, Corinth Holders pushed their score all the way to 57 on Friday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They took a 68-57 hit to the loss column at the hands of Willow Spring.
Loss or not, Corinth Holders got some senior leadership from Evan Smith who scored 17 points along with seven rebounds and Max Carlson who scored 12 points along with four steals and three blocks. The team also got some help courtesy of Tyler Sandaire, who scored nine points along with three steals.
Clayton's defeat dropped their record down to 11-4. As for Corinth Holders, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-13.
Friday's game is shaping up to be a scrappy match: Clayton have been smashing the glass this season, having only averaged 30.5 rebounds per game. However, it's not like Corinth Holders struggles in that department as they've been averaging only 29 rebounds per game. Given Clayton's sizeable advantage in that area, Corinth Holders will need to find a way to close that gap.
Everything came up roses for Clayton against Corinth Holders in their previous matchup back in January of 2023 as the squad secured a 70-43 victory. Will Clayton repeat their success, or does Corinth Holders have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
