Phillips' three-game losing streak came to an end on Thursday. They snuck past Hyde Park with a 77-71 win. The win was all the more spectacular given Phillips' disadvantage in MaxPreps' Illinois basketball rankings (they are ranked 223rd, while Hyde Park is ranked 48th).
It was another big night for Lawrence Horton, who scored 37 points. Those 37 points set a new season-high mark for him. The team also got some help courtesy of Amari Edwards, who scored 17 points.
McHenry has made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won four games by 23 points or more this season. They blew past Dundee-Crown 61-38.
The victory got Phillips back to even at 4-4. As for McHenry, their win bumped their record up to 5-3.
Everything came up roses for Phillips against McHenry when the teams last played back in December of 2022 as the squad secured a 75-48 victory. Will Phillips repeat their success, or does McHenry have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
