Basketball Recap: Lauren Medrano Leads a Balanced Attack to Beat Roswell

Goddard hadn't done well against Roswell recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Tuesday. The Goddard Rockets snuck past the Roswell Coyotes with a 51-45 victory. This was a revenge game for the Rockets: when they faced off against the Coyotes back in December of 2024, they had to take a 57-43 loss.

Goddard's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Lauren Medrano, who went 8 for 10 on her way to 16 points and eight rebounds. The dominant performance also gave Medrano a new career-high in assists (three). Natalie Hardwick was another key player, dropping a double-double on ten points and 18 rebounds.

Goddard smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 12 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive rebounds in ten consecutive contests.

Goddard is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five matches, which provided a massive bump to their 8-6 record this season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 51.4 points per game. As for Roswell, their defeat ended a four-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 11-3.

When Goddard and Roswell next hit the court, they'll be up against teams who recently just can't seem to lose. Goddard will try to stop Tucumcari's three-game winning streak when the meet at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Similarly, Roswell will try to stop Mayfield's eight-game winning streak when the meet at 6:30 p.m. on Friday.
