The Lennard Longhorns suffered their biggest loss since December 5, 2023 on Tuesday. They were dealt a 54-20 loss at the hands of Wharton. While losing is never fun, Lennard can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 472nd, while Wharton is ranked 91st).
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Wharton to victory, but perhaps none more so than Nina Green, who scored 13 points along with six rebounds and five steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Emma Maggio, who scored nine points along with five steals.
Lennard's defeat was their third straight at home, which bumped their record down to 3-10. Those losses could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 28.0 points per game. As for Wharton, their victory bumped their record up to 16-1.
Lennard will look to defend their home court on Friday against Steinbrenner at 7:00 p.m. Wharton won't have much time to rest: their next match is against Strawberry Crest at 6:30 p.m. on January 17th. Strawberry Crest and Wharton are at an even 4-4 over their past eight head-to-heads.
