The Itasca Wampus Cats had to endure a five-game losing streak, but that streak is no more. They snuck past Rio Vista with a 45-39 victory on Friday. That result was just more of the same for these two, as Itasca also won the last time the pair played back in November of 2023.
Despite the loss, Rio Vista saw an underclassman step up: Shiloh Johnson dropped a double-double on 14 points and 15 rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Johnson has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Kalli West, who scored 11 points along with nine rebounds and two steals.
Itasca's win ended a three-game drought at home and bumped them up to 13-17. As for Rio Vista, they have traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost nine of their last ten matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-22 record this season.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Itasca will take on Hamilton at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Hamilton knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with flashy point totals in its past six games -- so hopefully Itasca likes a good challenge. As for Rio Vista, they will head out on the road to face off against Italy at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
