SALINA, Kan. -
Central (Salina, Kan.) captured the lead in the fourth quarter and held on for a 20-13 victory over
Great Bend (Kan.) on Saturday. The Mustangs captured the lead for good when
Malik Veal ran for a touchdown.
After trailing 7-6 at the half, the Panthers went ahead on a touchdown with 11:00 to go in the fourth. Central finally took the lead for good as Veal ran for a touchdown with 9:00 remaining in the fourth quarter.
CHS expanded its lead to seven points entering the fourth quarter. The Salina school scored once in the quarter on a rushing touchdown.
Veal stood out for the Mustangs in the win. The junior running back ran for one touchdown. He has now scored three touchdowns on the season.
Joshua Lopez played well for Great Bend. The senior running back ran for one touchdown.
Central came in allowing an average of 27.7 points per game this season.
CHS got revenge for last year's 27-13 loss to GB with the victory.
The win was a nice bounce back for the Mustangs, which lost to South last week, 23-20.
In a non-conference game next week Central (3-5) takes on Hays, and Great Bend (5-3) will go up against South also in a non-conference game.
