The Hiland Hawks will venture away from home to face off against the Ridgewood Generals at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The squads are rolling into the game with opposing streaks: Hiland has struggled recently with three losses in a row, while Ridgewood will arrive with four straight wins.
Malvern hit Hiland with a seven-run third inning on Tuesday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Hawks lost 15-4 to the Hornets.
Lily Miller made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs and one stolen base. Those runs marked the first that she has scored this season.
Meanwhile, Ridgewood's rock-solid pitcher showed up for the team's third consecutive shutout on Tuesday. They never let Zanesville get on the board and left with a 17-0 victory. Considering the Generals have won six contests by more than five runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.
Addison Lahmers was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out 12 over five innings pitched. Lahmers was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with one home run and three RBI.
In other batting news, Ridgewood got a massive performance out of Miciah Cahill, who went 3-for-5 with five stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI. That's the most RBI Cahill has posted since back in March. Ava Kulbacki was another key player, going 1-for-4 with one home run, two stolen bases, and two runs.
Ridgewood kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least ten hits in four consecutive matchups.
Ridgewood's win was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 9-5-1. The road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 15.3 runs over those games. As for Hiland, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-8.
Hiland might still be hurting after the 20-0 loss they got from Ridgewood in their previous matchup on Monday. Can the Hawks avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
