The McMinnville Grizzlies are taking a road trip to face off against the Glencoe Crimson Tide at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. McMinnville's pitching crew has only allowed four runs per game this season, so Glencoe's hitters will have their work cut out for them.
McMinnville is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Oregon's top teams: Forest Grove, who was ranked 19th at the time (McMinnville was ranked eighth). The Grizzlies took a 12-7 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Vikings on Wednesday. Surprisingly, this marked the Grizzlies' fifth straight game in which the away team has come away the victor.
Kaylee Dinger was cooking despite her team's loss, going 2-for-3 with two RBI, one run, and one double. The team also got some help courtesy of Genevieve Thomas, who went 2-for-4 with three RBI and one run.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Glencoe). They put the hurt on Newberg with a sharp 22-3 win on Wednesday. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for the Crimson Tide considering their one-run performance the matchup before.
Kalli Farrimond made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, tossing four innings while giving up just two earned runs off three hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in nine consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with one stolen base.
In other batting news, Glencoe got a massive performance out of Makena Petrick, who went 3-for-6 with one home run, five RBI, and three runs. That's the most hits Petrick has posted since back in April. Harlow Huson was another key player, going 2-for-3 with one home run, three runs, and three RBI.
Glencoe kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 19 hits. That's the most hits they've managed all season.
Glencoe has been performing well recently as they've won nine of their last 11 games. That's provided a nice bump to their 15-6 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.5 runs on average over those games. As for McMinnville, their defeat dropped their record down to 15-5.
McMinnville came up short against Glencoe when the teams last played two weeks ago, falling 10-7. Can the Grizzlies avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
