The Garfield G-Men scored the most points they've had all season to find success on Monday. They strolled past Memorial with points to spare, taking the game 64-45. The win was just what Garfield needed coming off of a 54-32 defeat in their prior match.
Garfield found their leader in underclassman Mandy Cardinal, who dropped a double-double on 22 points and 11 rebounds. That makes it three consecutive games in which Cardinal has scored at least a third of Garfield's points. Kaelyn Tasker was another key contributor, scoring ten points along with four steals.
Memorial's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Angeliz Diaz, who scored seven points along with 12 rebounds and six assists. Diaz hasn't dropped below two steals for ten straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of Diamon Sims, who dropped a double-double on 18 points and 11 rebounds.
Even though they lost, Memorial were working as a unit and finished the game with 11 assists. That's the most assists they've managed all season.
Garfield's victory bumped their record up to 3-11. As for Memorial, they are on a five-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 2-13.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Garfield will take on Liberty at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. Liberty is out to stop a eight-game streak of losses at home. As for Memorial, they will head out on the road to square off against Champion at 6:15 p.m. on Thursday. Champion will be looking to extend their current six-game winning streak.
