The Laurel Golden Tornadoes were the 58-37 winner over the Hattiesburg Tigers when they last played one another back in January, but their luck changed this time around. Laurel fell to Hattiesburg 56-52.
Despite the defeat, Laurel saw an underclassman step up: Kayllis Walker scored 14 points along with 5 blocks. Walker scored a full 26.9% of Laurel's points, the second time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. Another player making a difference was Marissa Ulmer, who scored 9 points.
Laurel's defeat dropped their record down to 5-3. As for Hattiesburg, the win (which was their fourth in a row) raised their record to 7-3.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Laurel's road trip will continue as they head out to face Taylorsville at 6:00 p.m. on December 8th. Taylorsville will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Mississippi Rankings (they are ranked 139th, while Laurel is ranked 20th). As for Hattiesburg, they will head out on the road to face off against Jefferson Davis County at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Jefferson Davis County will be looking to keep their five-game home win streak alive.
