He looked comfortable on the mound,   striking out ten batters over  five innings while giving up just two earned  (and two unearned) runs off   three  hits. Rankin Jr. has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't  tossed less than six  strikeouts in three consecutive pitching appearances. Rankin Jr. was also stellar in the batter's box,  scoring two  runs and  stealing a base while  getting on base  in four of his five plate appearances.
 In other batting news,  Owen Kriech was a standout: he got on base  in four of his five plate appearances with three  runs, four  RBI,  and a  stolen base.  Angel Almea was another key contributor,  scoring three  runs and  stealing three bases while  getting on base  in all five of his plate appearances.
 Providence Cristo Rey's defeat dropped their record down to 0-3. As for Irvington Preparatory Academy, their win was  their tenth straight at home dating back to last season, which  pushed their record up to 10-3.
