The Frederick Golden Eagles are taking a road trip to face off against the Horizon Hawks at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. Frederick hasn't scored more than a single run for three games straight, a trend the team is eager to reverse.
Frederick lost 9-1 to Holy Family on Thursday.
Frederick saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Dalton Sherry, who went 1-for-3 with one RBI.
Meanwhile, Horizon beat Silver Creek 10-5 on Thursday.
Tanner Whitaker looked comfortable as he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit over four innings pitched. What's more, he posted two strikeouts, the most he's had since back in March.
At the plate, Horizon let Eli Savage and Brock Hilyard run wild. Savage went 4-for-5 with three runs, three RBI, and one triple, while Hilyard went 3-for-4 with three stolen bases, three runs, and one triple. Savage has become a key player for Horizon: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two runs, but 4-8 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Zac Lujan, who went 2-for-4 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.
Horizon was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .432. They are a perfect 4-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.
Horizon has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 7-8 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.0 runs over those games. As for Frederick, their defeat dropped their record down to 4-13.
Frederick was able to grind out a solid win over Horizon in their previous matchup back in April of 2025, winning 8-4. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Golden Eagles since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
