Upper St. Clair is 1-8 against Chartiers Valley since April of 2015 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Monday. The Panthers will face off against the Colts at 3:30 p.m. Upper St. Clair has given up an average of 6.8 runs per game this season, but Monday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Upper St. Clair is headed into Monday's matchup looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their fourth straight game on Thursday. They took a 12-8 hit to the loss column at the hands of Moon Area.
Brooklyn Kemp was huge while hitting and pitching even without the win. On the mound, she struck out 11 batters over 12 innings while giving up six earned (and four unearned) runs off 15 hits (and not a single walk). Kemp was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-6 with three RBI.
In other batting news, Nora Stutzman made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 3-for-6 with one run, one double, and one RBI. Geneva Eisinger also deserves some recognition as she scored her first run of the season.
Meanwhile, Chartiers Valley waltzed into their contest on Wednesday with three straight wins... but they left with four. Everything went their way against the Panthers as they made off with a 15-2 win. The result was nothing new for the Colts, who have now won six games by six runs or more so far this season.
Like Upper St. Clair, Chartiers Valley also got a great game from a two-way player: Taylor Walsh. She tossed five innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off four hits. Walsh has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in four consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 3-for-4 with two RBI and one run. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in May of 2024.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Alana Woods, who went 3-for-4 with four RBI, two runs, and two doubles. Those four RBI gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Chloe Tenney, who went 2-for-3 with three RBI and two runs.
Chartiers Valley always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .559. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Upper St. Clair only posted an OBP of .333.
Chartiers Valley pushed their record up to 7-3 with the victory, which was their third straight on the road. Those road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.7 runs on average over those games. As for Upper St. Clair, their defeat dropped their record down to 5-4.
Monday's match will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Upper St. Clair hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .315. However, it's not like Chartiers Valley struggles in that department as they've averaged .336. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Upper St. Clair might still be hurting after the 15-2 loss they got from Chartiers Valley when the teams last played on Wednesday. Can the Panthers avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
