The Abbott Panthers put another one in the bag on Thursday to keep their perfect season alive. They took their matchup on the road with ease, bagging a 46-0 win over Gholson. Given Abbott's advantage in MaxPreps' Texas football rankings (they are ranked fifth, while Gholson is ranked 142nd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Abbott's victory was their ninth straight on the road (dating back to last season), which bumped their overall record up to 10-0. It's not like the team was facing easy opposition over that stretch either, as it included 9-1 Borden County and 9-1 Covenant Classical (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 60.9% over those games). As for Gholson, they are on a six-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 4-6.
Abbott will square off against Avalon at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. Avalon is also coming in off of a big victory, so somebody is in for a big reversal of fortune. Gholson does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
