They had to suffer through a rough 79-34 loss at the hands of Williamsburg Academy. Thomas Sumter Academy lost against Williamsburg Academy in their previous head to head back in December of 2022, too, but the margin this time around was much wider than the 54-48 score last time.
Thomas Sumter Academy's loss shouldn't obscure the performances of Christian Williams, who scored 11 points along with five rebounds, and Porter Barrineau who scored nine points. Williams scored a full 32.4% of Thomas Sumter Academy's points, the third time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points.
Williamsburg Academy got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Wes Smith out in front who scored 22 points. Corey Burts was another key contributor, scoring 17 points.
Thomas Sumter Academy's defeat was their ninth straight at home dating back to last season, which bumped their record down to 0-3. As for Williamsburg Academy, their victory bumped their record up to 1-0.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Thomas Sumter Academy will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Williamsburg Academy at 4:00 p.m. on January 3, 2024. Williamsburg Academy won't have much time to rest: their next game is against King's Academy at 7:30 p.m. on December 5th. King's Academy is coming into the match on a five-game losing streak.
