Two dominant signal callers in Cameron Hackworth and Joe Yoney JR are getting ready to go toe-to-toe. The Sabino Sabercats will look to defend their home field on Friday against the Mohave Thunderbirds at 7:00 p.m.
Last Friday, it was a hard-fought matchup, but Sabino had to settle for a 31-28 defeat against Morenci.
Hackworth put forth a good effort for the losing side as he threw for 218 yards and two touchdowns, and also punched in a touchdown on the ground.
Meanwhile, Mohave put another one in the bag on Friday to keep their perfect season alive. They breezed by River Valley at home to the tune of 48-6. The result was nothing new for Mohave, who have now won seven contests by 28 points or more so far this season.
Mohave found their leader in underclassman Yoney JR, who rushed for 85 yards and three touchdowns on only 12 carries, and also threw for 209 yards and three touchdowns while completing 72.7% of his passes. Another player making a difference was Nathaniel Villarreal, who picked up 107 receiving yards and two touchdowns.
The team's defense also helped out by holding River Valley to a paltry 94 yards. A big part of that defensive dominance came down to Mohave's ability to keep the quarterback under pressure: the team laid him out six times before it was all said and done. The heavy lifting was done by Jonathon Williams and Blake Moore who racked up four sacks between them.
Sabino's loss dropped their record down to 6-3. As for Mohave, their win was their ninth straight at home, bumping their overall record up to 9-0.
