Leavitt and Medomak Valley are an even 5-5 against one another since May of 2016, but likely not for long. The Hornets will be playing in front of their home fans against the Panthers at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. The two teams each escaped (but just barely!) with wins against their previous opponents.
While Leavitt's win against Lincoln Academy wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Hornets' pitchers stepped up to hand the Eagles a 2-0 shutout on Friday. The victory continues a trend for the Hornets in their matchups with the Eagles: they've now won six in a row.
Trent Holst was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Holst was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in two of his three plate appearances with two stolen bases and one run.
Holst wasn't the only one making solid contact as three players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was John Oliver, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base.
Meanwhile, Medomak Valley faced Brunswick in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Friday. The Panthers won by a run and slipped past the Dragons 2-1. The win was familiar territory for the Panthers, who have now won five matches in a row.
Kristian Schumann was excellent, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with one stolen base and one run. The team also got some help courtesy of Josh Blake Jr, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with one run and one double.
Medomak Valley's victory was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 6-1. Those home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.0 runs over those games. As for Leavitt, the victory got them back to even at 3-3.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Monday as neither team is afraid to steal. Leavitt has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.8 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Medomak Valley struggles in that department as they've been averaging 3.3 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Everything went Leavitt's way against Medomak Valley in their previous matchup back in May of 2024, as Leavitt made off with a 10-0 win. Do the Hornets have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Panthers turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
