It was a good run, but Meridian unfortunately witnessed the end of their seven-game winning streak on Friday. They were just a bucket shy of victory and fell 50-49 to the Northwest Rankin Cougars. Unfortunately, that's the third time they've come up short against the Cougars this season, with their most recent loss being a 60-54 defeat back in January.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Northwest Rankin to victory, but perhaps none more so than Deshawn Dillon, who went 5-for-12 on his way to 20 points and six rebounds. Dillon continues to improve, besting his previous point total in each of the last three games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Christopher Sanders, who posted 11 points and five boards.
Meridian's loss dropped their record down to 18-9. As for Northwest Rankin, the victory was the third in a row for them, bringing their record up to 19-11.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Meridian will welcome West Harrison at 6:00 p.m. on Saturday. As for Northwest Rankin, they will square off against Ocean Springs at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. The Cougars will be up against the Greyhounds' rather soft defense (which has allowed 50.59 points per game), so fans could be in store for a big offensive performance.
