Basketball Game Preview: Marvin Ridge Mavericks vs. Sun Valley Spartans

Marvin Ridge and Sun Valley are an even 5-5 against one another since January of 2021, but not for long. The Marvin Ridge Mavericks will be playing at home against the Sun Valley Spartans at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Marvin Ridge is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 57.6 points per game this season.

Marvin Ridge will bounce into Tuesday's game after beating Charlotte Catholic, who they had gone 1-8 against in their nine prior meetings. Marvin Ridge came out on top against Charlotte Catholic by a score of 64-57 on Friday. The victory was all the more spectacular given the Mavericks' disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 252nd, while the Cougars are ranked 29th).

Henry Smith continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, going 7 for 10 en route to 27 points along with seven boards and six assists. Those 27 points gave him a new career-high. Brady Dunn was another key player, going 5 of 11 on his way to 14 points.

Meanwhile, Sun Valley ended up a good deal behind Weddington on Friday and lost 60-42. The Spartans haven't had much luck with the Warriors recently, as the team's come up short the last two times they've met.

Marvin Ridge has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four matches, which provided a nice bump to their 6-10 record this season. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 60.8 points per game. As for Sun Valley, their loss dropped their record down to 7-9.
