2A Western recap November 5, 2013
Adding to the longest winning streak in 2A Western this week, Gunnison beat Fort Lupton 49-28. The victory was the eighth in a row for the team.
Aspen lost to Faith Christian 49-14 last week, the largest margin of any game. Tyler Tick threw for 143 yards and 2 touchdowns in the loss.
Grand Valley's Tyler Scott and Ivan Arizaga have formed a dream team this season, leading the league in both passing and receiving yards. 6-4 quarterback Scott has thrown for 1,976 yards this season, while Arizaga has 44 catches for 662 yards. Ryan Fitzgerald from Aspen leads the league in rushing with 1,687 yards.
Zane Phelps has rushed for 987 yards on 213 carries so far this year.
Gunnison made the biggest jump in the national rankings this week, rising to 6,729 from 7,844. The improvement was largely due to a 49-28 victory over the Blue Devils last week.
