Given Strom Thurmond's advantage in MaxPreps' South Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 103rd, while Midland Valley is ranked 219th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Strom Thurmond's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Roosevelt Walker led the charge by dropping a double-double on 20 points and ten rebounds. Those 20 points set a new season-high mark for him. Another player making a difference was Quan Edmond, who scored 13 points along with eight rebounds.
Strom Thurmond's win ended a three-game drought on the road and puts them at 12-5. As for Midland Valley, they are on a ten-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-11.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Strom Thurmond will be staying on the road on Wednesday to face off against Batesburg-Leesville at 7:30 p.m. on January 10th. As for Midland Valley, they will challenge Aiken at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Aiken will be looking to keep their five-game home win streak alive.
