The East Jefferson Warriors's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Thursday after their fourth straight loss. They fell 56-47 to Slidell. While losing is never fun, East Jefferson can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Louisiana basketball rankings (they are ranked 230th, while Slidell is ranked 69th).
Slidell's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Jerry Birdlow led the charge by dropping a double-double on 20 points and 16 rebounds. That's the first time this season that Birdlow scored 15 or more points. Jereme Landor was another key contributor, scoring 14 points along with five rebounds.
East Jefferson has been struggling recently, as they've lost ten of their last 12 contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-16 record this season. As for Slidell, the victory (which was their sixth in a row) raised their record to 13-7.
East Jefferson will be playing in front of their home fans against Franklinton at 5:30 p.m. on Monday. As for Slidell, they will head out on the road to face off against Frederick A. Douglass at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
