The Lamesa Tornadoes will head out to take on Compass Academy at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Lamesa is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.4 runs per game this season.
Lamesa fell victim to Denver City and their airtight pitching crew on Saturday. They lost 10-0 to the Mustangs. The match marked the first time this season in which the Tornadoes were not able to get on the board.
Meanwhile, Compass Academy entered their tilt with Coahoma on Saturday with two consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with three. They put the hurt on the Bulldogs with a sharp 12-2 win. Considering Compass Academy has won four contests by more than five runs this season, Saturday's blowout was nothing new.
JACKSON CLARK made a big impact no matter where he played. He pitched five innings while giving up just two earned runs off four hits. What's more, he gave up only one walk, the fewest he's had since back in February. He was also stellar in the batter's box, going 3-for-5 with four RBI, one run, and one double. Those four RBI gave him a new career-high.
In other pitching news, CANYON BOWNDS looked comfortable as he tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit.
Back at the plate, Compass Academy got a big performance out of KAISON BIVINS, who scored two runs while going 2-for-4. Another player making a difference was KASON TRAVIS, who scored three runs while going 1-for-3.
Compass Academy was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .429. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their batting average total in three consecutive games.
Lamesa's loss was their fifth straight on the road dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 6-7. As for Compass Academy, their record is now 9-2.
Tuesday's match will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Lamesa hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .312.
