Make it five blowout wins for the Hawthorne Hornets this season. They blew past Chiefland, posting a 61-23 win on the road. 61 seems to be a good number for Hawthorne as the team scooped up a win with the same number of points in their previous game.
Hawthorne was led to victory by De' Mya Adams and Jhalea Jackson. Adams scored 15 points along with five steals, while Jackson dropped a double-double on 17 points and 13 rebounds. Jackson is absolutely dominating the rebound category: she's posted at least eight every time she's taken the court this season. Another player making a difference was Ranicia Coleman, who dropped a double-double on 13 points and ten rebounds.
Chiefland's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Brianna Bell, who scored five points along with four steals. Bell is absolutely dominating the steal category: she's posted at least two every time she's taken the court this season. Laila Ingram was another key contributor, scoring six points along with two steals.
Hawthorne's victory was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 6-3. They've been dominating during the games in that stretch too, as they've won by an average of 30.33 points. As for Chiefland, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 6-8.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Hawthorne on the road again on Friday and play against Keystone Heights at 6:00 p.m. on January 12th. Keystone Heights will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Florida Rankings (they are ranked 503rd, while Hawthorne is ranked 137th). As for Chiefland, they will head out on the road to take on Trenton at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Hopefully Trenton focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 16 on Saturday.
