Holden Potter made a splash no matter where he played. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out ten over six innings pitched. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Bear River is undefeated when he allows at most one earned run, but 6-7 otherwise. Potter was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with two RBI and one double. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in March.
In other batting news, Bear River got a big performance out of Dallin Rice, who scored two runs while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances. That's the most runs Rice has posted since back in March. Thomas Summers also deserves some recognition as he snagged his first stolen base of the season.
Bear River was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .444. They are a perfect 4-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.
Meanwhile, Park City waltzed into their matchup on Wednesday with 12 straight wins... but they left with 13. They didn't even let the Huskies on the board, marking their second-straight 11-0 shutout. The Miners' pitching crew has been rock solid lately; the team hasn't given up a run in their last three contests.
Wesley Dewitt made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs while going 2-for-4.
In other pitching news, Brooks Baganz looked comfortable as he pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit.
Back at the plate, Justin Michaelis was a standout: he scored three runs and stole a base while going 2-for-3. Another player making a difference was Colton Schmidt, who scored two runs and stole a base while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances.
Park City's win was their seventh straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 16-3. The road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 4.0 runs on average over those games. As for Bear River, their record now sits at 10-7.
Bear River skirted past Park City 8-6 in their previous meeting back in May of 2019. Will the Bears repeat their success, or do the Miners have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
