The Layton Lancers's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Tuesday after their third straight loss. They ended up on the wrong side of a tough 54-29 walloping at the hands of Davis. While losing is never fun, Layton can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Utah basketball rankings (they are ranked 59th, while Davis is ranked fifth).
Despite the loss, Layton still got an impressive performance from Oakley Homer, who scored 13 points along with six rebounds.
Even though they lost, Layton smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 13 offensive rebounds. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Davis only pulled down three offensive rebounds.
It was another big night for Kendra Kitchen, who dropped a double-double on 16 points and ten rebounds for Davis. Kitchen hasn't dropped below three steals for six straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of T'Maea Eteuati, who scored 12 points along with three steals.
Layton has traveled a rocky road recently having lost eight of their last ten matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 7-13 record this season. As for Davis, their victory was their ninth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 17-1.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Layton will take on Farmington at 5:15 p.m. on Friday. Hopefully Layton focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 21 on Tuesday. As for Davis, they will head out on the road to face off against Syracuse at 5:15 p.m. on Friday. Syracuse is also coming in off of a big victory, so somebody is in for a big reversal of fortune.
