Friends Academy had lost five straight at home dating back to last season, but on Thursday they dropped their record down to 0-4 to make it six. They came up short against the Carle Place Frogs, falling 14-8. On the bright side, the eight- run effort marked the Quakers' highest-scoring matchup to date.
Damian Balkcom was cooking despite his team's loss, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs, two RBI, and one double. That double was his first of the season. Noah Siebel was another key player, getting on base in two of his four plate appearances with two runs and one RBI.
As for Carle Place, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won seven of their last eight games. That's provided a nice bump to their 11-3 record this season. Winning may never get old, but they sure are getting used to it with their sixth in a row.
On Carle Place's side, Roman Sandonato looked comfortable as he struck out seven batters over four innings while giving up three earned (and two unearned) runs off four hits.
On the hitting side, Patrick McCarthy was incredible, going a perfect 4-for-4 with one home run, four runs, and one stolen base. Those four hits gave him a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Philip Bunt, who got on base in four of his five plate appearances with two runs and one triple.
Friends Academy does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Carle Place, they will challenge Oyster Bay at 5:00 p.m. on Monday.
