McKinney Boyd hasn't had much luck against Plano West recently, but that could start to change on Saturday. The McKinney Boyd Broncos will square off against the Plano West Wolves at 1:00 p.m. McKinney Boyd is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.8 runs per game this season.
McKinney Boyd will roll into the matchup after a wild two-game stretch: they only put up one run on Tuesday, then bounced right back against Princeton on Thursday. McKinney Boyd's pitcher stepped up to hand Princeton an 11-0 shutout. The result was nothing new for the Broncos, who have now won 12 games by six runs or more so far this season.

Sophia Vlahos
03/20/25 @ Princeton | 12 |
02/21/25 vs Birdville | 6 |
02/24/25 @ Prosper | 5 |
02/11/25 vs Plano West | 5 |
02/13/25 vs Midland | 4 |
The result came thanks to Sophia Vlahos's shutout, as she gave up just three hits and racked up 12 Ks. Those 12 strikeouts gave her a new career-high.
At the plate, Reagan Davis and Olivia Locke did most of the damage at the plate: Davis scored a run while going 2-for-4, while Locke scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-2. Leah Teague was another key player, scoring three runs while going 2-for-4.
McKinney Boyd hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now struck out at most five strikeouts in 11 consecutive contests.
Meanwhile, Plano West came tearing into Thursday's match with five straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 4.8 runs), and they left with even more momentum. They came out on top against the Eagles by a score of 9-4.
Marlee Flanigan spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned (and one unearned) runs on eight hits. Those hits were her first of the season.
On the hitting side, Abby Cuellar was a standout: she scored two runs and stole a base while going 3-for-3. Another player making a difference was Andrea Carrillo, who went 2-for-3 with one home run and four RBI.
McKinney Boyd has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won ten of their last 11 games. That's provided a nice bump to their 13-8 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.9 runs on average over those games. Plano West's victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 11-6.
McKinney Boyd's speedy runners might be the difference in Saturday's contest. McKinney Boyd has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 2.8 stolen bases per game. It's a different story for Plano West, though, as they've been averaging only 1.2 stolen bases. Will they be able to secure the bases, or will McKinney Boyd continue to outrun the ball?
McKinney Boyd suffered a grim 13-7 defeat to Plano West in their previous matchup back in February. Can McKinney Boyd avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
