The Animo Venice Pirates will head out on the road to square off against the Discovery Warriors at 3:00 p.m. on Friday. Animo Venice is coming into the game hot, having won their last 11 games.
Animo Venice's pitching crew heads into the contest hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Wednesday. They were the clear victors by an 18-0 margin over Alliance Health Services Academy. The Pirates might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 14 matchups by ten runs or more this season.
S Osorio and S Guerrero made a splash no matter where they played. Throwing, Osorio struck out six batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit (and not a single walk). Meanwhile, Guerrero tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. She has been consistent: she hasn't given up a single hit in five consecutive appearances. At the plate, Osorio went 2-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and one triple, while Guerrero fired off two home runs, four runs, and two stolen bases while going 4-for-4. What's more, Guerrero posted two doubles, the most she's had since back in April of 2025.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on A Mendoza, who got on base in all four of her plate appearances with three stolen bases, four runs, and one double. That's the most runs she has posted since back in May of 2025. The team also got some help courtesy of M Baires, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with two stolen bases, two RBI, and one run.
Animo Venice always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .727. That was just more of the same: they've now posted an OBP of .512 or higher in five consecutive games.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Discovery). They had just enough and edged out Valley Oaks CES 37-35. The win continues a trend for the Warriors in their matchups with the Wildcats: they've now won nine in a row.
Britany Arellano was excellent, getting on base in six of her ten plate appearances with five runs and five RBI. Olivia Martinez was another key player, getting on base in eight of her 12 plate appearances with six runs.
Animo Venice's record is now 16-4. As for Discovery, their record now sits at 6-11.
Friday's contest might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Animo Venice has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .671. However, it's not like Discovery struggles in that department as they've averaged .507. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Animo Venice suffered a grim 18-4 defeat to Discovery in their previous meeting back in March of 2017. Can the Pirates avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
