What to watch: Starkville would inch closer to a Class 6A, Region 2 title and stay on track for its first undefeated season in nearly 20 years with a win Friday night. Starkville (9-0) rose to No. 17 in the latest MaxPreps Xcellent 25 after 31-6 win over Murrah (Jackson) last week. It was the seventh-straight game in which the Yellowjackets held an opponent to seven or fewer points. On the same night, Warren Central suffered its first loss of the year at home to state-ranked Clinton, 14-13.
Chris Stamps, a Mississippi State recruit, caught what might have been a game-tying touchdown pass for Warren Central, but the Vikings (8-1) failed to covert on the ensuing PAT.
