There's no place like home for the Mount Vernon Tigers, who bounced back after a tough loss on the road last Friday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 42-39 win over Breckenridge on Thursday. Given Mount Vernon's advantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 413th, while Breckenridge is ranked 874th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Despite the loss, Breckenridge still got an impressive performance from Zaea Ragle, who dropped a double-double on 13 points and 12 rebounds. Ragle scored a full 33.3% of Breckenridge's points, the fourth time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Karsyn Smalley, who scored 7 points along with 5 rebounds.
Mount Vernon's win bumped their record up to 7-4. As for Breckenridge, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 3-10.
Coincidentally, the pair will both be playing Connally the next time they take the court. Breckenridge will host Connally at TBD on Thursday, while Mount Vernon will host them at TBD on Thursday.
