D1 District 1 (8 Man) recap Sept. 26, 2012
Freeman extended the longest winning streak in D1 District 1 (8 Man) this week by beating Lourdes Central Catholic, 45-36. The win marks fourth in a row for the the Falcons.
Pawnee City was the team that gained the most ground in the standings this week, jumping from sixth to fourth in the league. The Indians defeated Friend 62-30 earlier in the week.
Freeman's offense was tough to stop this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. Isaac Frerichs threw for 163 and three touchdowns and Derek Zimmerman had 111 yards receiving. On the ground Austin Ruskamp chipped in 155 yards. Jacob Buhr helped Freeman's passing attack out by catching one ball for 30 yards.
Freeman's offense has been unstoppable this season and the Falcons feature the season leaders in passing, rushing and receiving yards. Frerichs has thrown for 495 yards and nine touchdowns this season, while Zimmerman has 19 catches for 249 yards. Ruskamp leads the league in rushing with 400 yards.
Two of the top units in D1 District 1 (8 Man) will face off this week when Theron Troxel's team takes on Pawnee City. The Falcons' offense has racked up 188 points this season, earning them the top spot in the league, while Mitchell Shepherd's team has allowed only 182 on the year.
A big matchup in the league this week will be when Exeter-Milligan takes on the Knights. The Timberwolves are currently in second, while Lourdes Central Catholic is in third.
The Indians led the league in scoring this week after putting up 62 points on the Bulldogs.
