The Burley Bobcats will challenge the Sugar-Salem Diggers at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Both come into the contest bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
On Saturday, Burley beat Malad 5-1. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Bobcats.
Ike Redder spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned run on three hits.
At the plate, Burley got a big performance out of Jacoby Roe, who went 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI. Casen Cooper was another key player, going 2-for-3 with one run and one RBI.
Meanwhile, Sugar-Salem got the win against American Falls on Saturday by a conclusive 21-2. The victory continues a trend for the Diggers in their matchups with the Beavers: they've now won eight in a row.
Wyatt Telford was a major factor no matter where he played. On the mound, he tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Telford was also big at the plate, getting on base in all three of his plate appearances with one run and one RBI.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Latrell Markle, who got on base in all four of his plate appearances with one home run, six RBI, and four runs. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in hits (two). Another player making a difference was Preston Harris, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with three RBI and two runs.
Sugar-Salem always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .750. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as American Falls only posted an OBP of .357.
Burley's win bumped their record up to 2-0. As for Sugar-Salem, they now have a winning record of 2-1.
Burley came out on top in a nail-biter against Sugar-Salem when the teams last played back in March of 2025, sneaking past 5-4. Will the Bobcats repeat their success, or do the Diggers have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
