Zackery Gross was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He struck out eight batters over 6.2 innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off six hits. That's the most strikeouts he has posted since back in April. He was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with one triple and one run. That triple marked the first that he has hit this season.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Nico Allen, who went 2-for-3 with four RBI and one double. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in April. The team also got some help courtesy of Ryken Zeigler, who went 1-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.
Meanwhile, Marion Local earned an 8-4 win over New Bremen on Friday.
Parker Hess spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered four runs (all of which were unearned) on five hits and racked up six Ks. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Hayden Poeppelman was incredible, going 3-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double. Another player making a difference was Kamden Eifert, who went 1-for-2 with two RBI and one double.
Marion Local's victory was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 17-7. Those home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.0 runs over those games. As for Elmwood, their record is now 20-8.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Wednesday as neither team is afraid to steal. Elmwood has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 4.1 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Marion Local struggles in that department as they've been averaging 3 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
