The Westerville South Wildcats will face off against the Reynoldsburg Raiders at 8:00 p.m. on Monday. Both come into the matchup bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Fans were treated to a battle of the Wildcats on Thursday. Westerville South came out on top against Newark by a score of 3-1. Westerville South hasn't had any issues with Newark recently, as the game was their sixth consecutive win against them.
While Westerville South might've won, it sure wasn't easy: Newark scored at least 18 points in every set they played. The final score came out to 25-18, 25-20, 20-25, 25-21.
Meanwhile, Reynoldsburg got the win against Pickerington Central on Tuesday by a conclusive 3-0. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Raiders.
While Reynoldsburg won a shutout, things came down to the wire in the second set they played. The match finished with set scores of 25-20, 25-23, 25-12.
Reynoldsburg found their leader in freshman Nimesh Biswa, who had six digs and three aces. Anthony Licea Acosta also deserves some recognition as he had his first kill of the season.
Reynoldsburg was lethal from the service line and finished the game with 16 aces. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now served at least five aces in three consecutive contests.
Westerville South now has a winning record of 9-8. As for Reynoldsburg, their record is now 6-10.
Here's a few offensive stats to keep an eye on ahead of Monday's game: Westerville South has really dialed in their serving this season, having averaged 8.7 aces per game. However, it's not like Reynoldsburg struggles in that department as they've been averaging 7.9 aces. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
