After flying high against the Middlebury Tigers on Wednesday, the Fair Haven Slaters came back down to earth. Fair Haven opened the new year with a less-than-successful 71-62 defeat to Brattleboro. Having run the score up that high, both teams probably have some extra defensive drills coming up.
Brattleboro's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Keagan Systo led the charge by scoring 16 points along with five assists and four steals. The game was Systo's third in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Jack Cady, who scored 14 points.
Fair Haven has traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost five of their last six games, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-5 record this season. As for Brattleboro, their victory bumped their record up to an identical 3-5.
Fair Haven will head out on the road to face off against Mt. Abraham at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in Vermont (Mt. Abraham is ranked 39th, while Fair Haven is ranked 30th). As for Brattleboro, they will be playing at home against Champlain Valley Union at 7:00 p.m. on Monday.
