Sydney Kraus made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out ten batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned (and four unearned) runs off four hits (and only one walk). She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 1-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one double. That stolen base was her first of the season.
In other batting news, Onalaska let MJ Heit and Cayenne Zinnecker run wild. Heit went 2-for-5 with one home run and two runs, while Zinnecker went 3-for-5 with two doubles, two RBI, and one run. Those two doubles gave Zinnecker a new career-high. Kylie Gilhausen also deserves some recognition as she hit her first double of the season.
Onalaska hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. The team has now struck out at least two batters in three consecutive matchups.
Meanwhile, Aquinas didn't have quite enough to beat La Crosse Central on Monday and fell 6-5. That's two games in a row now that the Blugolds have lost by just one run.
Abby Ziolkowski spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned (and three unearned) runs on nine hits and racked up eight Ks.
At the plate, Addy Watson was cooking despite her team's loss, going a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs, two doubles, and one stolen base. Ryann Klar was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two RBI and one run.
Onalaska's record is now 7-4. As for Aquinas, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost three of their last four contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 4-5 record this season.
Everything went Onalaska's way against Aquinas when the teams last played back in April, as Onalaska made off with an 11-1 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Hilltoppers since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
