After having lost a blowout in their previous game against South Holt, The Mound City Panthers were happy to have found some success on Friday. They blew past Stewartsville, posting a 58-12 win on the road. For Mound City, this counts as revenge for the 40-12 loss Stewartsville walked away with the last time they faced one another back in September of 2022.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Mound City to victory, but perhaps none more so than Cole Gillenwater, who rushed for 106 yards and two touchdowns on only five carries, and also threw for 19 yards and a touchdown. Gillenwater is on a roll when it comes to solo tackles, as he's now made six or more in the last three games he's played. kane derr was in the mix too, providing Mound City with two touchdowns.
Mound City's win bumped their record up to 3-6. As for Stewartsville, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-8.
Mound City will head out on the road to face off against Rock Port at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in Missouri (Rock Port is ranked 19th, while Mound City is ranked 22nd). As for Stewartsville, they will look to defend their home field on Friday against DeKalb at 7:00 p.m. DeKalb comes in still looking for their first win of the season.
