Hudson's Bay had lost nine games on the road dating back to last season, but after bumping their record up to 4-10 on Friday that streak is in the rearview. They walked away with a 10-7 victory over the Washougal Panthers. This was a revenge game for the Eagles: when they faced off against the Panthers on Wednesday, they had to take a 12-4 defeat.
Gabe Valencia made a splash no matter where he played. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit over 4.1 innings pitched. Valencia was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with three RBI, two runs, and one stolen base. Those three RBI gave him a new career-high.
In other batting news, Tanner Koford was incredible, going 2-for-4 with three RBI, one triple, and one run. Another player making a difference was Michael Legg, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one run and one RBI.
As for Washougal, they dropped their record down to 4-10 with the loss, which was their fourth straight at home. Even worse, they were so close so many times: the defeats came by an average of only 1.75 runs.
Like Hudson's Bay, Washougal also got a great game from a two-way player: Rowyn Brady. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching four innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off four hits. Brady was also big at the plate, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with one run and one double.
In other batting news, Kadin Gibbons was cooking despite his team's loss, going 2-for-4 with three RBI. Wyatt Compher also deserves some recognition as he snagged his first stolen bases of the season.
We've got plenty of inter-district action coming up soon. Hudson's Bay will square off against rival Hockinson at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. Meanwhile, Washougal is set to face off against their familiar foe Mark Morris at 4:30 p.m. on Monday.
