St. Helena has gone 9-1 against Cloverdale recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Friday. The Saints will be playing in front of their home fans against the Eagles at 3:30 p.m. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Cloverdale will square off against a team with plenty of momentum: St. Helena extended their winning streak to five on Thursday. The Saints put the hurt on Clear Lake with a sharp 15-1 victory. That's two games straight that the Saints have won by exactly 14 runs.
Ada Blanton made a big impact no matter where she played. She didn't allow a single earned run over four innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in seven consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, getting on base in three of her five plate appearances with three runs. That's the most runs she has posted since back in March.
In other batting news, Olive Filippini was a standout: she got on base in all four of her plate appearances with three runs and three RBI. Malia Lund was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.
St. Helena was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .375. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .353 or higher in seven consecutive contests.
Meanwhile, Cloverdale got the win against Middletown on Wednesday by a conclusive 18-2.
Like St. Helena, Cloverdale also got a great game from a two-way player: Camryn Bird. On the mound, Bird tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Meanwhile, Grace Rhodes pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. At bat, Bird got on base in all four of her plate appearances with two stolen bases, three RBI, and two runs, while Rhodes got on base in three of her four plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.
In other batting news, Cloverdale got a massive performance out of Paige Davis, who got on base in four of her five plate appearances with three runs, two RBI, and one double. The team also got some help courtesy of Ronni Hatcher, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with four RBI and two runs.
St. Helena's win bumped their record up to 10-5. As for Cloverdale, their victory bumped their record up to 12-2.
Friday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. St. Helena hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .366. However, it's not like Cloverdale struggles in that department as they've averaged .416. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
