On Friday, the Roosevelt Roughriders faced the McKinley Tech Trainers in a battle between two of the state's top teams. Roosevelt walked away with a 79-72 victory over McKinley Tech. Having run the score up that high, both teams might be doing some extra defensive drills very soon.
Roosevelt got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Jamall Price, Jr. out in front who scored 19 points along with two steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Jawuan Carter, who scored 15 points along with six rebounds and two steals.
McKinley Tech's loss came despite strong showings from DaMontae Neclos and Ricardo Hardy. Neclos scored 24 points, while Hardy scored 20 points. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Hardy has scored all season. Alexander Williams was another key contributor, scoring 12 points along with five rebounds.
McKinley Tech struggled to work together and finished the game with only two assists. They were crushed by their opponents in that department as Roosevelt racked up 14 assists.
Roosevelt is on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven games, which provided a nice bump to their 17-6 record this season. As for McKinley Tech, their loss ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 15-9.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Roosevelt will take on Anacostia at 7:30 p.m. on Monday. Anacostia is coming into the contest with seven straight defeats on the road, meaning Roosevelt will have to defend against a squad hungry for a victory. As for McKinley Tech, they will stay at home for another game and welcome Banneker at 7:00 p.m. on February 5th. McKinley Tech has been dominant on offense recently, as they've racked up an incredible 385 points over their last six matchups.
